About Me
Keeping Employees Productive

Last year, I realized that a few of our employees did not have the best intentions when they came to work. It seemed like their goal was to slack off and avoid work, and it was really frustrating. I realized that I had to do something in order to make things right, so I started working with them to train them. I also installed a camera system and explained the consequences of their actions. Within about six months, we were able to completely overhaul things, and it made a huge difference. This blog is all about keeping employees productive and on track, so that you can keep your company viable.

Key Information About The Main Types Of Wastewater Treatment Chemicals

Grace Hanson

If you need to find a wastewater treatment solution for your industrial or manufacturing operation, you should research the different types of wastewater treatment chemicals available to find the best one to suit your needs.

There are four main types of treatment chemical that are most commonly used on wastewater. They are anti-foaming agents, pH neutralizers, coagulants, and flocculants. Each of these chemical types works differently and has different effects on the wastewater it is used to treat.

The following is some key information on each of the main types of wastewater treatment chemicals

Anti-foaming agents

Removing foam from wastewater is important because foam can wear out mechanical pumping systems and block sieves to create drainage malfunctions. Another negative consequence of the presence of foam in wastewater is the creation of deposits in tanks and processing vessels.

Anti-foaming agents include insoluble oils, alcohols, glycols, and silicones. These agents make it so that air bubbles that create foam rupture. This minimizes the presence of foam in wastewater and thereby makes wastewater less problematic for water processing systems.

pH neutralizers

Neutralizing the pH of wastewater is important because wastewater can be highly damaging to ecosystems if it is able to change the pH of lakes, rivers, and streams into which it is released.

Wastewater tends to be strongly acidic or basic because of the chemicals used in many industrial and manufacturing processes. pH neutralizers aren't just effective at neutralizing the pH of water, but they can also be used to precipitate out contaminants like toxic and heavy metals from the wastewater.

Coagulants

Coagulants and flocculants are two types of wastewater treatment chemical which are formulated to work together. A coagulant is usually made from either inorganic compounds or organic polymers.

The first step in the process of treating wastewater with coagulants and flocculants is using the coagulant to neutralize the charge on any particles that are suspended in the wastewater.

Flocculants

After coagulants neutralize the charge on particles in the wastewater, flocculants make it so that the particles become bound together into larger particles. These larger neutralized conglomerate particles can then be removed from the wastewater.

Particles are typically removed from wastewater after treatment with coagulants and flocculants through either flotation or settlement. When it comes to removing heavy solids from wastewater, settlement is usually used. When it comes to removing contaminants such as fats and oils, flotation is generally the more effective removal method.
